Free Drum Lessons: The Tekronomicon Channel

Recently, I uploaded 4 instructional videos to my YouTube channel. They have a "reader's digest" feel to them in that ninety-minute lessons are compressed into 5 minutes (or less), so keep that in mind. :-)

If you are a newer player, you'll probably want to start with the first basic rudiments video.

I don't really like any kind of "spamming" this group with personal "ads" and hope that this won't be seen as spam since they are free lessons and the goal is to help someone with their drumming. :-)

I plan on adding more later after our baby is born (any day now).

Take care, have fun, and enjoy the drumming!

Your voice over is very well done. Did yinz go to the Columbia School of Broadcastin' er sumthin? No, but seriously, well done.

I understand that you most likely were shooting to make the videos short for e-broadcast, but it would be helpful if you looped the rythyms a coulpe times at each speed when you're demonstrating.

Keep up the good fight :)

Thanks, Jacques! :-) They are certainly compressed lessons, eh?!? YouTube has a 10-minute limit, so I'm cranking out lessons in the 5-minute range. That's not much time at all. Good thing digital rewind is FAST! ;-)

The voice-over work is based on my fear of not being clear! :D

      Thanks again, and enjoy drumming!

And from being a good old midwestern boy. It helps! Not to brag on myself, but I get the voice compliments all the time too (at work they had me do the outgoing message thingy...it's funny when I get myself when I call there)...and I think it's just because Midwesterners tend to have the desirable non-accent for voice work. I'm from northwest Indiana...I can get a little Chicago-y at times, and living in West Virginia for 10 years can really mess you up linguistically! LOL

Wonder how one lands a voice-over gig? I imagine it's fairly competetive.

I'm a bit on the nasal side of voices, so I wouldn't stand a chance in the voice-over industry! :-)

I've uploaded a video on the body mechanics of split-finger technique. It has creepy slow motion, rude sounds, pumpkin guts, and some information that is possibly useful! :D

Keep spreading the word and have fun!

You know, if you wore a light blue sweater and sneakers, you could be Mr. Rogers playing the doumbek

            Sure you can!

Speaking of feeding the fishes.... <buddum, crash!> :D Can't you picture a zombified version of Fred Rogers singing "won't you be my neighbor" with his arms outstretched, grabbing, lunging incessantly for your....your BRAINS!!!

Okay...maybe not. :D Maybe it's just in my world.

Actually, I'm just weird enough to be able to visualize that, with his USMC tat visible on his arm beneath a ragged sleeve.

Perhaps it's because I had to listen to my brother, and son, watch his show, 30 years apart. The tinkly sound of that train is engrained into my memory like the smell of burnt popcorn.

Well, Mr. Hartnell, at this rate you may be hearing from my lawyers soon about some medical bills! I tried the "LOD Funk" the other day and when I tried to speed up a bit, my brain got its signals crossed between a thumb stroke and a slap. This resulted in me finding out which was stronger, my thumb or the rim of my ceramic doumbek (the drum won, in case you're wondering). After preaching in the Tekronomicon to keep my thumbs up, where it's nice and safe, you then go and send one of the poor bastards directly into harms way. Shame on you! *shakes fist in mock anger*

(OK, I guess you're safe, since I actually can't afford a lawyer. Or to go see the doctor, for that matter. Which is why I'm extremely grateful for the free lessons. Thanks, Nevik!)

P.S. I think it's cute how you believe you'll actually have MORE free time after the baby comes! Congrats in advance, BTW! ;-)
